You’ve probably heard me say this before but I LOVE Sarah Jane and the magical inclusive world she creates through her art. Anytime I get to play with her fabric is a good day. I got the opportunity to make this quilt out of her new Lola Dutch fabric for Spring Quilt Market and I finally took it out for a photoshoot. Lola Dutch first appeared in picture books that Sarah Jane wrote and illustrated with her husband. It’s a pretty magical series of stories about childhood and wonder. And now it’s on fabric!!!! Eeeeek!

I knew I wanted to make a quilt with the Lola Dutch fabric that was fresh yet classic so I chose one of the blocks from the Callaloo Quilt pattern – the Happy As A Clam block. I think it’s perfect for this fabric. I paired it with Cotton Couture Soft White for the top arc of each clam.

Then I organized the blocks in a sort of cascading color order.

I quilted it with my favorite – a random crosshatch but this time a rectangular random crosshatch. I think that straight lines are the perfect balance for curved pieced quilts!

The details in the fabric are perfection. I think I’m in love.
